Nicholson assess win over Ilkeston Town

Adam Nicholson provided his assessment following a stellar defensive showing against Ilkeston Town on Saturday.

The Anchors captain opened by exclaiming his delight following the result: “It’s absolutely massive. Everyone knew before the game how big of a matchup it was, and so it’s a big win that sets us in the right direction.

“We’ve got six big games left so nothing is done yet. We just need to keep plucking away and take each games as it comes and keep doing what we’re doing. The last two games against teams around us, we’ve found a way to win by being solid at both ends and I’m so proud of everyone involved today.”

The powerful centre-half followed by expressing his emotions after yet another clean sheet after a masterful performance: “I missed a few games last month, including the other game against Ilkeston and so I’m just delighted to be back. It really does mean the world to me – playing for this club, and I take a lot of pride in my performance and the team’s performance as a whole today.”

‘Adi’ then takes time to praise the incredible turnout from Anchors fans on Saturday: “It can’t be described how much it helps us. Hearing them singing as we’re coming out and you can see the intensity we play with when the crowd is roaring. It really gives you that impetus to get up and get going, it drives the adrenaline through you and when you’ve got that adrenaline, you just keep challenging yourself more and we’ve always said, when that crowd gets behind us – this place is a very difficult place to come for any team at any level, and I think you could clearly see that today and we just need them to keep backing us for the last month of the season.”

He closes by looking ahead to next weekend’s test, where a trip to FC United of Manchester awaits the Anchors: “It’s just another big game. We’ve just got to go and win, it’s as simple as that. We’ve got six games to go and we keeping just looking ahead to each game. We’ll train this week, get ready to take them on and get on the bus on Saturday and go for the win. Just try and keep it as simple as we can and take each game as it comes.”
