Mikey Roberts spoke after Stockton Town secured a playoff spot in a 1-1 draw with Morpeth Town.
The forward is now in his seventh season in yellow and blue, and will be taking part in his fourth consecutive playoffs with the club.
When speaking on the clinching of the playoff position, Roberts said: “It’s a really special achievement. Coming into the season I think everyone involved with the club just wanted security, we’d have been happy in mid-table, but we’ve exceeded everyone’s expectations. We’ve already achieved something very special, but it’s not over yet and we have just got to keep on going.”
Mikey then praises the support, after 1,249 fans attended the game against Morpeth Town: “The support all season has been incredible, but it just always seems to get bigger and better at this club.”
He also overviews the game against Morpeth by saying: “It wasn’t a classic today by any means, and we are a bit disappointed with a draw, as we wanted to keep a hold of that third place, but the point is what we needed and playoffs are secured so now we just have to continue this form and hopefully kick-on again in the last two games and take the form into the playoffs.”
With a nine-game unbeaten streak still intact, Mikey explains the aim for the remaining two games of the season: “Momentum is the key now. We’re nine unbeaten and we’ve been playing really well, we’ve picked up some unbelievable results on the way to get to where we are right now, and if we can take this form into the last two, and then into the playoffs, we have got a very good chance.”
Roberts closed by looking ahead to Monday’s trip to Hebburn Town: “It’s obviously one of our local derbies, and they’re never easy, even with Hebburn on a bad spell, it is one of those games where anything can happen on the day so we just have to turn up with the same attitude and mentality that we have for the last nine and hopefully get over the line again.”
