MATCH REPORT

Stockton Town FC v Easington Colliery AFC

The 1st team took the opportunity to get some game time in when they travelled to Sunderland to take on Northern League Division 2 Easington CW on Farringdon Academy’s 3 G Pitch. The game was an excellent workout with some outstanding Stockton goals and another piledriver from Max Craggs that flew in but somehow the Referee gave a corner when all there could see the ball had clearly gone in. Firstly Kallum Hannah opened the scoring after a fine Stockton move with a left foot finish across the keeper.

Easington got back on level terms with a fine individual goal, the Easington forward collected the ball by the left touchline, cut in beating 2 Stockton defenders before curling his shot into the far corner. Stockton however were soon back in front and from a Max Craggs corner Chris Dunwell glanced a header into the far corner of the Easington net.

In the second half Stockton missed numerous clear cut chances to further increase their lead but couldn’t take them, before Matty Garbutt produced a fine chipped finish with 20 minutes left to play.

The goal of the game however was left until last when Joe Scaife Wheatley picked up a loose ball 40 yards out, his immaculate first touch left the ball where he wanted it and with his right foot chipped the keeper from distance, outstanding goal.

The game also saw a return to action for Sonni Coleman following his ankle operation. Sonni has returned fit and raring to go and will soon be pushing for a starting place in Michael Dunwells line up.
