Stockton Town ended Worksop Town’s nine-game winning run with an immense victory in front of a big crowd at the Map Group UK Stadium.
Hamza Bencherif’s red card led to the Anchors finding plenty of opportunities, and finishing three to secure a massive three points.
Michael Dunwell made two changes to the team that won at FC United of Manchester last week, with Stephen Thompson and Fenton John both getting the start.
Stockton started as the more lively side, with a huge chance within the opening 15 minutes as Lewis King was fed through in the middle of the box, but his placement found the wrong side of the post.
A couple of minor opportunities went by for both sides, before Worksop found a way through the Anchors’ backline, but Alekandrs Starcenko’s effort bounced off the underside of the crossbar.
Then the major turning point took place mere minutes before the half-time break, when Josh Scott showed his speed to meet a through ball, before being bundled down by Worksop captain Hamza Bencherif, who was shown a straight red card for denying a goal scoring opportunity.
Stephen Thompson stepped over the free-kick, drilling a low strike into the bottom corner with an incredible connection to give the Anchors a lead right on the stroke of half-time.
Half-time: Stockton Town 1-0 Worksop Town
Stockton pounced on the ten-men of Worksop, and looked just as strong after the break, with Fenton John forcing a save out of Tommy Taylor with some good footwork.
Substitute Owen Gallacher very nearly found the net with a deep cross from the left wing, catching the goalkeeper off-guard, but the ball bounced off the top of the crossbar.
But with eight minutes remaining, Gallacher did find his first Stockton Town goal, after poking home a scramble in the box to crucially double his side’s lead.
Then after more Stockton pressure, following a big chance for Fenton John, the game was topped off when Mikey Roberts incredibly created space on the wing with a nutmeg, allowing him to dart into the box, where his cross was tapped in by Michael Fowler, securing an unbelievable result.
Full-time: Stockton Town 3-0 Worksop Town
