MATCH REPORT

FC United of Manchester v Stockton Town FC

Josh Scott’s early strike secured another win on the road for Stockton Town.

Scott pounced on a mistake by the FC United back line inside five minutes in what proved to be the only decisive action of the game.

It was a big day for FC United of Manchester who were hosting their ‘United United’ day and had partnered up with the 1958 for a protest against the Glazers.

Michael Dunwell named one change to the Starting XI from the side which beat Ilkeston Town last Saturday. Kev Hayes was out due to suspension and he was replaced by Owen Gallacher.

The game hardly had time to breathe by the time the Anchors went ahead. A poor giveaway by FC United was taken advantage of. Michael Sweet’s low ball found Glen Butterworth who played the ball through for Scott who finished with aplomb.

FC United had their first effort shortly before the quarter hour mark when Adam Le Fondre sent a low effort wide of the target.

Stockton had two decent chances to extend their lead into the break. Butterworth found Sweet under pressure and his effort went wide.

Then Adam Nicholson knocked a header on towards Arjun Purewal who was just unable to direct his header goalwards.

Half-Time: FC United of Manchester 0-1 Stockton Town

It took until the 69th minute for a meaningful opportunity to present itself. Le Fondre sent a dangerous freekick over the bar.

There was one final big chance for an equaliser when Le Fondre went through against Harker but the goalkeeper clawed out a hand to deny him. It was an excellent recovery by Harker from an error which had presented FC United the chance originally.

In the end, Stockton secured the win and moved within four points of third-place Guiseley after they could only draw with Matlock Town. They remain seven-points inside the Play-Off places after Ilkeston Town beat Warrington Rylands.
