MATCH REPORT

Workington v Stockton Town FC

Stockton Town moved back into the Play-Off spots after they came from behind to win at Workington.

Cieran Casson gave the Reds the lead but the Anchors reacted well and levelled through Tom Coulthard.

On the hour mark, Stockton went ahead when Michael Sweet scored his 11th league goal of the season.

The win was wrapped up when Stephen Thompson netted in the final moments.

Michael Dunwell named two changes to his Starting XI. Glen Butterworth and Michael Sweet came in for Lewis Leech and Stephen Thompson. Kev Hayes was also marking his 300th appearance for the club.

The Anchors started the game well but it was Workington who opened the scoring when a corner from the left was played out to Casson who sent a low half-volley past Harker.

Stockton were undeterred and pulled themselves level when Butterworth’s freekick was controlled by Adam Nicholson and laid off for Coulthard who struck his third goal in as many games.

Workington almost restored their lead when the ball was worked into the box for Tom Stephenson but he was denied by Nathan Harker who spread himself well to close the angle.

Stockton dominated much of the first half as they continued to peg back Workington. Although they couldn’t conjure much goal mouth action.

Half-Time: Workington AFC 1-1 Stockton Town

Stockton went ahead on the hour when Harker’s long goal kick found Josh Scott who unselfishly played it into Sweet who was given the simple task of stroking the ball home.

After taking the lead, Stockton didn’t look back and continued to come forward with promise.

Scott received the ball on the edge of the box before he fired over, and then he forced a save from Mitchell with a low strike.

Sweet could have had a brace after the ball broke to him following a poor clearance by Mitchell but the goalkeeper recovered well and made the save to deny him.

The Anchors had a third and daylight with two minutes of regulation remaining when substitute Thompson Picked up the ball on the right-wing and he caught Mitchell off his line with a lob from a tight angle.

Stockton should have had a fourth in stoppage time when substitute Mikey Roberts rounded Mitchell but he could only find the side netting with his effort.
