MATCH REPORT

Stockton Town FC v Blyth Spartans AFC

Stockton Town were beaten 3-0 by a ruthless Blyth Spartans side.

Michael Dunwell was forced into more changes to his starting lineup as Tom Coulthard missed out through injury, but Lewis King and Stephen Thompson returned to the squad after missing Saturday’s victory.

After a very quiet opening, the visitors had the first opportunity of the match as a wayward long-shot missed the target.

Stockton had the biggest chance of the first half when Michael Sweet was played in behind, his shot was saved by Harrison Bond and a rebounded attempt from Glen Butterworth was crucially blocked as it made its way towards goal.

Michael Fowler had another opportunity a few moments later as he was played through down the right-wing and attempted an early shot at goal which was pushed away by Bond.

Half-time: Stockton Town 0-0 Blyth Spartans

Five minutes into the second half, Nathan Harker pulled off a stunning save to deny a free-kick from Nicky Deverdics on the edge of the penalty area.

But from the following corner, Blyth recycled a clearance and chaos in the box led to Dan Savage bundling over the line to provide his side an advantage.

In the 60th minute, the visitors doubled their lead when a counter attack saw Nicky Deverdics play a pass into youngster Billy Gordon who finished nicely past Harker.

The game was sealed in the 80th minute when Daniel Savage scored his second of the evening from inside the box.

The Anchors had a few opportunities to close the game, including a header from Arjun Purewal that nearly found the target, but Blyth held strong to secure all three points.
