Stockton Town maintained their impressive Pre-Season record with a scintillating victory at Newton Aycliffe.The Anchors had four different goalscorers as Kev Hayes, Glen Butterworth, Mikey Roberts and Cam Painter were all on the scoresheet.Michael Dunwell named Adam Nicholson, Arjun Purewal and Tom Coulthard as a defensive trio. Lewis Leech started again midfield and Michael Fowler got the start up front.The game’s first effort saw Josh Baggs send a tame shot at the goalkeeper.Aycliffe answered with a Cole Kiernan shot which was comfortable for Nathan Harker.The opening goal was not long in coming as good work from Leech saw him find Hayes who neatly tucked the ball away.Newton Aycliffe almost levelled but Kiernan was denied by an unbelievable save from Harker.The Anchors had a few half chances in the rest of the first half.Coulthard glanced a header wide from a Butterworth free kick.Leech skewed a strike over when it was headed back to him by Hayes.Finally, Butterworth drove a rasping effort over in one of the final acts of the half.Half-Time: Newton Aycliffe 0-1 Stockton TownThe Anchors added a second when Glen Butterworth’s cross was deflected in.Another came minutes later when Roberts pounced on a loose ball and rifled into the corner.The goals were flowing and Painter got in on the act when he drove forward before he fired into the corner.Newton Aycliffe almost had a consolation but a thunderous strike from range hit the post.Aycliffe had another eye-catching strike late on which was impressively turned over by Stockton’s trialist goalkeeper.Full- Time: Newton Aycliffe 0-4 Stockton TownThe win sees them maintain their 100% Pre-Season record.Next up is a big test when they welcome National League North outfit Spennymoor Town to the MAP Group UK Stadium.Words: James CartwrightPhoto: Jordan Clarke
