MATCH REPORT

Stockton Town FC v Newton Aycliffe

Michael Fowler and Elliott Beddow’s goals makes it three wins in a row for the Anchors.

Michael Fowler opened the scoring in the 50th minute when Adam Nicholson headed a corner back across goal which the on-form forward finished.

Elliott Beddow put Newton Aycliffe’s hopes of a late equaliser to bed, tapping in a rebound following a Lewis King shot.

Michael Dunwell made one change going into the game, bringing Michael Sweet back into the line-up for Mikey Roberts, whilst two former Anchors, Jake Petitjean and Liam Cooke lined-up for the visitors.

The Anchors started strong in the early stages, and nearly took the lead after two minutes when Michael Fowler broke down the right wing, his cut-back found Stephen Thompson but his off-balance effort narrowly missed the target.

Liam Adamson had one of Newton Aycliffe’s best chances of the game after 11 minutes, when the winger found space in the box, but his close-ranged shot was well kept out by Callum Roberts.

The Anchors had another great chance a few minutes later, when a Lewis King cross was brought down by Michael Sweet in the box and fired his shot into the side netting.

The Anchors took the lead five minutes after the restart, when Cameron Painter’s deep corner was headed back across goal by Adam Nicholson and found Michael Fowler, open in the middle, who volleyed past Daniel Cameron for his fourth goal of the season.

The striker had a chance to double his tally for the day in the 62nd minute when he received the ball in the box and tried to place it past the ‘keeper, with the ball just narrowly missing the bottom corner.

Despite a late amount of Newton Aycliffe pressure, the three points were sealed in the 90th minute when Lewis King broke into the box, firing an effort at goal which was saved by the goalkeeper, but parried only to Elliott Beddow who threw his body at the ball to guide it over the line and double the Anchors’ advantage.
