MATCH REPORT

Redcar Athletic FC v Stockton Town FC

This local derby attracted a good crowd with a healthy contingent from Stockton over to follow their team. A big game for both teams that would be a good indication of how the Season may unfold for both of these teams.

Stockton started the game on the front foot forcing an early corner, the clearance only found Stav Roberts on the edge of the box and his volley flew into the far corner to give Stockton a 2nd minute lead. It wasn’t long before Kallum Hannah doubled Stockton’s lead in the 18th minute. Redcar were struggling to cope with the pace of Stockton’s attacks and Redcar were making little progress against the centre half partnership of Coulthard and Nicholson. Chris Stockton was next on the score sheet when he left the Redcar defence for dead, raced clear and knocked the ball past the advancing keeper from 18 yards. Stockton were in complete control and fully deserved their 3 0 half time lead.

Tony Johnson came on at half time for the injured Chris Stockton.

The second half saw Redcar get themselves back into the game when a header from a corner found the back of the net on 50 minutes. This gave Redcar the initiative and the game now had an edge about it as Redcar sensed a way back into the game. Stockton though steadied the ship and that man Kallum Hannah struck again for his second of the game on 65 minutes. Substitute Luke Whittaker was causing Redcar problems with his powerful running from midfield and a smart finish from 20 yards grabbed Stockton’s 5th. The game was all but over as Redcar could not trouble Stockton’s defence and it was left for Adam Nicholson to complete the scoring in the 87th minute to wrap up the 6 1 victory.

Luke Whittaker came off the bench to score a great goal for Stockton's 5th.
