Stockton Town progressed to the Semi Final of the Monkwearmouth Cup with victory over Spennymoor Town Reserves. The early minutes of the game saw Spennymoor try and force the pace of the match and they had Stockton defending without ever troubling Michael Arthur in Stockton’s goal. Stockton took the lead in the 10th minute following the award of a controversial corner. Spennymoor only managed to half clear the ball where it fell to Captain Stav Roberts who volleyed home. Stockton were now controlling the game and they looked very effective on the break with their pace and power. It was no surprise when they increased their lead in the 38th minute when a great control and turn by Kallum Hannah resulted in him playing a 30 yard diagonal pass through the Spennymoor defence where Chris Stockton cooly finished with his head.
Stockton were quickly into their stride in the second half when leading goalscorer Kallum Hannah nipped in front of his marker 25 yards from goal and passed the ball into the net all in one movement. Stockton were by now in control of the game and their 4th arrived just before the hour mark when Tony Johnson finished a fine passing move.
Stockton now face the winners of the Richmond Town v Wolviston tie at a date to be arranged.
