The Anchors’ recent addition, Fenton John, spoke following his sides’ 2-1 victory at playoff-rivalling Ilkeston Town.
The midfielder was named into the starting lineup for the clash only a few hours after his signing was confirmed, and says this is what he was expecting going into the game: “I met with the staff and his team on Monday and they said I would be straight in and once I found out that everything had gone through, I was excited for the game.”
He followed by exclaiming the additional excitement knowing the importance of Tuesday’s fixture, with the two sides level on points going into the game: “Knowing that you’re coming in with a chance to make a big impact was exciting. I hadn’t played in almost a month so I just couldn’t wait to get playing.”
The 21-year-old registered an assist in his opening 90 minutes of action, placing a perfect corner into the path of Arjun Purewal for the second goal of the night, which he described his emotions regarding by saying: “Yeah it was very nice, I said before the game that I want to help by getting goals and assists and to have got one already is great. It’s good to have the trust of the management to be on set-piece duty straight away, you feel that trust and it gets your confidence up.”
He closes by looking ahead to Saturday’s final trip to Derbyshire, where Matlock Town await the Anchors’ visit by saying: “I’m very excited for this one. We got the three points here, we’re back in the playoffs and you just want the games to keep coming so you can keep going. The lads have been great too, they’ve helped me settle in and on the pitch they were telling me what I needed to do and that’s always helpful when you’re at a new club.”
