Arjun Purewal Speaks Following Workington Win

Arjun Purewal spoke to us following the delight of Saturday’s 3-1 victory at Workington.

The Anchors’ summer signing made a second consecutive start on the right side of a back three, picking up a second win in those games, and he opened by discussing the recent switch in system: “It’s been good. We’ve played it a couple of times before and after a couple unfavourable results, the gaffer decided to bring it back.

“It’s been great to come in and play, we kept a clean sheet on Wednesday [against Leek Town] and I’d say we defended really well today so I’m happy.”

Alongside Arjun on the right hand side is Josh Baggs, who were teammates at Consett for the start of last season, and Purewal touches on how that has helped him settle into the starting position: “Josh is obviously a really good player, we know each others game and it’s important that we communicate a lot and it’s good we have that understanding already there. It always helps when you’re playing with good players like him as well.”

The 35-year-old now has an important role to fill throughout the next few weeks whilst captain Adam Nicholson is suspended, and he assesses the upcoming schedule by saying: “I’m confident, I’ve got a good mentality and I’m ready – I’ve been ready for a while and when you don’t play, it can get frustrating and it’s just about when you get that opportunity, you make it count, away from the pitch as well which is what I genuinely do anyway.

“I’m very confident stepping in.”

He closes by looking ahead to Tuesday night’s test away to Blyth Spartans by saying: “There’s been a lot of games in a short space of time and it’ll be a tough game, but we are confident. We’ve got good players, when we make changes the squad doesn’t get any weaker.

“We’ve got to push on to this next game and hopefully get another three points.”
