Stockton Town Ladies Durham County Cup campaign ended at the first hurdle with a 4-0 defeat at Chester-Le-Street Town.
It was a monumental task for the Anchoresses who were up against a Chester-Le-Street Town who are currently the leaders of the higher tier North East Women’s Regional League.
Like Stockton, they are unbeaten in their opening league games having won four from five.
There were four different goalscorers for CLS Town as Jenny Ashton, Harriet Sutton, Isla Baxter and Molly Wilcox were all on the scoresheet.
Reflecting on the game, Manager Chris Murphy spoke with pride: “We knew we were the underdogs and facing a quality team with a mixture of experienced players and top young talent.”
“We had a game plan as we knew we would have less possession than normal so we wanted to frustrate the opposition and hit them on the break.
“The girls kept to the plan and we did well however the quality of CLS came through as they scored at pivotal moments in the game.”
Full focus can continue on the quest for promotion. Next Sunday the Anchoresses are again on the road as they travel to Newton Aycliffe.
