Anchoresses finish 2024 in style

Stockton Town Ladies capped off 2024 in style with an emphatic win at Newton Aycliffe to remain at the top of the league.

The scoring was opened within the quarter hour when Milly McNamee’s dangerous corner was turned in by Kaitlyn Bell.

The lead was doubled with ten minutes of the first half remaining when Demi-Leigh Tapping’s well-placed through ball found Talia Korucu who made no mistake as she drilled into the corner.

Stockton cemented their superiority at the end of the half when Anna Murphy unleashed a stunning 25-yard strike into the top corner.

Into the second half, Stockton remained relentless and added to their tally. Korucu completed her brace when she made the most of Liv Banks’ timely assist.

Banks then located the net herself with a swift brace to continue her excellent start to life as an Anchoress. First she capitalised on a defensive error for the fifth, and then she met Lily Ann-Thwaite’s cross for the sixth.

Unfortunately the game did end on a slightly disappointing note as Newton Aycliffe scored a consolation when Martha Humble converted a rebound from a corner.

The Anchoresses now have a well deserved Christmas break before resuming their promotion push in the New Year. They return to action on January 5th with home game against Darlington.
