A huge game for the lads this week with the League Cup semi-final against first division opposition. The home side started well and early pressure saw them rattle the Stockton cross bar. Nunthorpe kept up the pressure and soon won a corner which was crossed in and expertly tipped over by Charlie Bradley in the Stockton goal. Stockton did manage to break from defence resulting in James Mahoney running clear but the home keeper was alert to the danger. Nunthorpe went route one and might have taken the lead had Charlie Bradley not tipped the attempt around the post. The resulting corner was headed goalwards but the home defence were unable to clear, giving Nunthorpe the lead. Stockton started to get a foothold in the game and managed to force their first corner of the game. The home keeper was in fine form firstly denying Dylon Marshall in a one on one situation then tipping a Rhys Berryman shot over the bar. Stockton were searching for the equaliser when Rhys Berryman was fouled just inside the opposition half. Sam Dawson floated the ball into the box where the keeper fumbled resulting in a scramble but Stockton couldn’t guide the ball home. The away side had another chance when Luke Hallatt cleared from defence sending Dylon Marshall clear but the home keeper denied him once again. After a great spell of Stockton pressure, Nunthorpe tried their luck with a long range effort but Charlie Bradley made an excellent save.
Half Time: Nunthorpe 1-0 Stockton Town
Early in the second half Stockton were awarded a free kick just outside the box which Sam Dawson fired narrowly over the cross bar. Nunthorpe tried to force the issue through the centre but Jack Daniel was in fine form today snuffing out a number of Nunthorpe attacks. The home side kept up the pressure and eventually created a chance which was well finished to double their lead. To their credit Stockton came straight back at the home side and might have pulled one back but the home keeper tipped Sam Dawson’s effort over the bar. It was end to end stuff and Charlie Bradley was brave to dive at the feet of the attacker to prevent his team falling further behind helped by Jacob Selby who put in a great last ditch tackle. Stockton won a free kick in the defensive half which was played high into the box by Luke Hallatt where the keeper did well to save the ball and send his team straight on the attack. Nunthorpe went up the pitch and slotted home to make it three with twenty minutes left to play. Stockton came close to pulling a goal back when Luke Hallatt floated the ball towards Sam Dawson who headed the ball across goal where Will Mackie saw his header cleared off the line. Stockton were pushing forward and were nearly caught out but Charlie Bradley made a great save and Ethan Gage was on hand to complete the clearance and found Sam Dawson to set Stockton on the attack again. Stockton continued to battle and thought they had scored when Will Mackie and Ethan Gage combined to find Rhys Berryman but his shot rocketed against the cross bar. Nunthorpe had a late chance to score but Jack Massey got across the attacker to clear the danger. Just before full time Rhys Berryman had a chance to score the goal his performance deserved but the home keeper tipped his shot round the post.

This was a tough game for the lads but they came out of it with their heads held high. They have had a great cup run beating some top teams and should be proud of their achievements.
