Stockton were at home looking to avenge an opening day defeat at the hands of today’s opponents. South Park started well putting the home defence under early pressure winning three corners in quick succession but the home defence were up to the task. Stockton started to find their feet and good pressure from Rhys Berryman forced a corner for the home side. Sam Dawson fired in the corner where Dylon Marshall got up above the defenders to fire his header home. Stockton might have gone further ahead when Rhys Berryman and James Mahoney exchanged passes before playing in Dylon Marshall but his shot was well saved by the South Park goalkeeper. The away side were not here just to make up the numbers and started to get a foothold in the game going close with two long range efforts. South Park had a great chance to equalise when the centre forward broke free down the right but he was only able to fire over the bar. Stockton made them pay for missed chances when Jack Massey launched a throw in into the box where Rhys Berryman flicked the ball to Dylon Marshall who volleyed the ball into the top corner. The home side took control of the game when Sam Dawson played a wonderful ball down the line to Dylon Marshall who raced into the box and fired home from the tightest of angles to complete his hat-trick. Stockton had a head of steam up and added to the score when Liam Small played a long ball out of defence which went perfectly into the path of Dylon Marshall who made no mistake slotting the ball under the advancing keeper. To their credit the away side didn’t give up and following some uncertainty in the Stockton defence South Park bundled the ball home to reduce the defecit. As half time approached Dylon Marshall found himself one on one with the keeper looking for his fifth of the game but the keeper saved bravely at Dylon’s feet injuring himself in the process and having to leave the field. Stockton tested the substitute keeper when Dylon Marshall shot just wide and Sam Dawson hit a powerful shot which was tipped over the bar.
Half Time : Stockton Town 4-1 South Park Rangers
The second half saw Jack Lacy return from injury for the home side and he was soon in the action seeing a long range shot clip the crossbar. South Park pressure saw the home defence having to work hard with Jacob Selby, Jack Massey and Jack Daniel all making vital clearances. Both sides were creating chances and Stockton thought they had extended the lead when Rhys Berryman hit a blockbuster shot which deflected off Jack Lacy into the net but the effort was ruled out for offside. Stockton pressure finally paid off when Dylon Marshall pounced on a defensive mistake and played in Jack Lacy who slotted home the fifth. As the final whistle approached James Mahoney played a great ball out of defence to Dylon Marshall who terrorized the defence before firing home his fifth of the game to complete the scoring.
