Four cracking goals gave the Blues the victory against Stockton Royals. The Blues created several chances early in the game but were unable to convert. The opening goal came from a rare mistake from the Blues keeper as he attempted to kick the ball out of his hands, the Royals striker capitalising 0 – 1. The Blues continued to attack and Dyson was brought down outside the area. Smith converted the free kick beating the wall and the keeper with ease 1 – 1. The Blues soon had their second of the game, Smith rounded a man in the middle of the pitch and hit the top corner from distance 2 – 1. The Royals made a few changes at half time and looked stronger for it creating some good chances. A defensive error helped the Royals gain the equaliser, the Blues defender turning into trouble, the Royals stealing the ball to make it 2 – 2. The Royals then took the lead from a great strike making it 2 – 3. The Blues kept going Dyson coming close hitting the side netting. Rowland came on and impressed before Lonsdale equalised Cruyff turning his man in the centre of the pitch ran towards goal and finished neatly to level the game 3 – 3. The Blues created yet more chances as they looked for the winner, Smith hitting both posts and seeing a free kick go just over the bar before Lonsdale hit the side netting twice. Smith then received the ball from the keeper on the edge of his box dribbled past the oncoming attacker, then beat two players down the wing before tricking his way past the 4th man inside the opposition box and seeing his shot / cross turned in by Lonsdale right in front of goal, 4-3 Win.
