An excellent first pre-season friendly for the blues. STFC took the lead when SRC tried to play out from the back into midfield, Smith burst out of defence, stole the ball, rounded a defender and finished in the bottom corner of the net 1-0. Goal number two followed shortly Dyson went down the left and looped a nice cross into the box for Smith to finish with a side foot volley 2-0. All the lads were working hard, vout hadn’t stopped running all half and carved out several chances for himself but couldn’t open his account for the team on this occasion. Waldon and Smith looked real solid at the back, anything missed was superbly saved by Carson Smith. Dyson was pressuring the defence really well and was soon on the score sheet, working hard down the left he finished in style lobbing the ball over the keepers head straight into the top corner 3-0. Half time – Dyson and Vout were replaced by Scott and Rowland. Waldon charged forward on a run and was ready to pull the trigger before been fouled on the edge of the box, Smith couldn’t convert the free kick. Rowland then made it four by stealing the ball from the defender, beating him and finishing neatly to make it 4-0. The blues conceded two quick goals to make it 4-2 and it looked like SRC were starting to fight back before Stockton added a fifth to finish the game off. Scott went on a run down the right hand side and found himself trapped in the corner, he had the composure and maturity to hold the ball up and drop it off to Smith on the edge of the box who side footed his shot straight into the top left corner for his hat trick 5-2. Well played lads.
