Match Report

The under 16’s travelled to Kader for a tough league game in misty conditions. The game started at a high tempo and it was the home side who had the first chance with a ball over the top which resulted in a lucky escape for Stockton when the striker fired narrowly wide. Stockton sparked into life and had two great chances when Jack Lacy and James Mahoney both worked the keeper. Stockton took the lead when Luke Hallatt picked out Sam Dawson on the left wing and he played a lovely ball to Jack Lacy who fired the ball past the keeper. Kader are a team who never give up which was evident and they started to get a foothold in the game pushing forward but the Stockton defence was in fine form today most notably with centre half pairing of Jack Daniel and Liam Small who were composed all day long. Stockton soaked up the pressure and might have extended the lead when Jack Lacy played in Will Mackie who saw his shot well saved by the home keeper who had been struggling with a back injury. Kader went up the other end and should have equalised but Charlie Bradley the Stockton keeper made a fine save from close range. Stockton were starting to control the midfield area which was evident when James Mahoney won a tackle in the centre circle  and picked out Will Mackie on the right who played in Jack Lacy to fire the ball under the keeper to the centre of the goal. James Mahoney’s midfield determination was key and he once again won the ball before feeding the ball to Will Mackie who rifled in a cross which cannoned off the Kader centre half and looped over the keeper to extend Stockton’s lead. Just before half time Stockton pushed forward and Sam Dawson picked out Dylon Marshall who showed true composure when lobbing the keeper from the edge of the box.

Half Time: Kader Athletic 0-4 Stockton Town

Stockton started the second half in the ascendancy and might have added to the lead when Dylon Marshall collected the ball in midfield and powered at the home defence but the home keeper pulled off a fine save. Stockton did add to the lead with a great passage of play which started with Jack Lacy who played a crossfield ball to Dylon Marshall and he in turn crossed to Liam Small who unselfishly played the ball to Jack Lacy and he finished off the move he started , grabbing his hat-trick in the process. The away side were in control and soon went further ahead when Dylon Marshall played a lovely ball to Sam Dawson who grabbed the goal his hard working performance deserved. Stockton were playing some lovely football and grabbed another goal following a fine run down the right by Will Mackie who took on two defenders before picking out Jack lacy on the edge of the box who spun and fired home his fourth of the game. The chances were coming thick and fast with Ethan Gage and Dylon Marshall narrowly firing over with long range shots. Marshall wasn’t to be denied and he used his pace to outstrip the home defence and fire home his second of the game. There was still time for a historic moment in the game when Ethan Gage was fouled in the box. Penalty!!

Up stepped the Stockton Town stalwart JACK HARKIN to send the keeper the wrong way and grab his first goal ever for the club half way through his eighth season with the club. The crowd went wild letting out the biggest cheer of the season so far.

Full time: Kader Athletic 0-9 Stockton Town

The lads did really well today in difficult conditions playing some lovely football and working hard for each other. What might have been a dificult fixture was handled well and resulted in a great team performance. A big well done to Jack Harkin on his goal.
