Match Report

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high …. there was a gale force wind and an uneven pitch and a team of young boys who made every parent, grandparent, manager and coach extremely proud of them !! Stockton travelled to Bishop Auckland St Mary’s for an away game played in difficult and testing conditions. With a strong wind blowing across the pitch and against opponents who put up a physical test the Yellows were simply outstanding and not because they played wonderful football; the conditions and the opposition did not allow this, but because they listened to instructions, played with their hearts and their mind, dug in and won. From back to front Stockton battled all over the pitch and, when possible, they played the ball around with purpose and intent. The opening goal was scored by Man of the Match, Harry King and when Bishop Auckland levelled with a wonderfully struck free kick Stockton drove forward again and quickly responded with a wonderful goal by Matthew Miller. The Yellows were rewarded further when David Dyson; who has been a revelation in recent weeks, struck a beautiful goal from the right hand side of the box into the opposite corner and then again through birthday boy Harry. FT 4-1 Scorers: Harry King (2), Matthew Miller, David Dyson MOTM (in association with Riverview Cafe @ Tees Barrage) Harry King. In the second game Max Finmore replaced Tommy Blackwell in goal, Corey Selmes and Jack Lewis started in defense and midfield respectively. Bishop Auckland did not give their opponents chance to settle, however Stockton took an early lead with a deserved goal for Corey, who epitomizes everything that is good about the Yellows squad, with his never say die attitude and his desire to listen and improve. Harry swept in another as Stockton were forced to make a substitution after Harvey was impeded whilst in full flight. Jack rounded off the scoring with a brace to cap a great all round display and one we know he is capable of maintaining. Just when we thought we had seen it all on strolls goalkeeper Tommy Blackwell to replace Joel; who suffered a knock to his ankle in his unwavering desire to win the ball back. Tommy produced a master class performance as a defender which included superb tackling, intelligent passing, some keepy ups and a Cruyff turn ! And so captain Tom Bell led off his troops to deserved praise from respectful parents and proud coaches, all part of the group that proudly represents Stockton Town Under 9s. FT 4-1 Scorers: Corey Selmes, Harry King, Jack Lewis (2) MOTM (in association with Riverview Cafe @ Tees Barrage) Corey Selmes.
