Match Report

A tough home game against strong opposition but the Blues played superbly and deserved a point or dare I say maybe even three. Greatham started well and dominated the first 5 minutes but Stockton stood strong, Rodham in goal looked real solid and made great saves all game. Greatham scored the first from a deflected shot to make it 0 – 1. Greatham nearly scored again but Waldon made an outstanding acrobatic goal line clearance. Stockton then began to match Greatham and created several chances in a real end to end game, there was some great passing on show and Smith and Waldon kept finding the front pair of Dyson and Lonsdale in great positions but we were unable to convert. It just wasn’t our day in front of goal and every chance we created was narrowly missed or gathered up by the keeper or just wouldn’t fall our way. The front two worked their socks off and deserved much more! In the second half the Blues were the stronger team and it seemed a goal was on its way, Smith came forward on several runs and dribbled his way through Greatham with an array of tricks including a Maradona Roulette but still the Blues couldn’t get the ball in the net. Vout came on for Dyson and he too came close having a shot cleared off the goal line by a defender. As the Blues pushed Greatham stole the ball and scored a great goal from outside the box to make it 0 – 2. Greatham then got another with the last kick of the game to make it 0 – 3. Great game and a great bunch of lads who were gracious in their victory.
Man of the Match was Dylan Smith
The friendly game ended 2 – 4 to Greatham A.
