Anchors Bring Back Ex Junior Jonathan Franks

The Club is delighted to announce the signing of Jonathan Franks after leaving Icelandic Premier League Club IBV Vestmannaeyja.

Jonathan has been a full time professional for the last 15 years having started his career on leaving school at Middlesbrough FC and since playing for the likes of Oxford Utd, Yeovil,  Hartlepool Utd, Wrexham and in the Scottish Premier League with Ross County where he won the Scottish League Cup in 2016. A move to Iceland followed where Jonathan played in the Premier League and featured in the Europa League for his Club.

Jonathan started his football journey at Stockton Town when we were known as Hartburn Juniors playing for Alan Brown before moving into Middlesbrough’s Academy at 11 years old. He went on to represent England from U15 level through to U20.

Despite offers to return to Iceland and continue to play full time Jonathan has taken the decision to remain at home and in the last few days opportunities have arisen that has allowed Stockton Town the opportunity to step in and secure Jonathan’s future to the Club.

Speaking after signing Jonathan said, “I’d always spoken to the Chairman about playing for the Club before I finished playing and now this opportunity has arisen I’m genuinely excited to be part of the Club again and help the Club achieve its ambitions.”

Manager Michael Dunwell confirmed that Jonathan would go straight into the squad for tomorrows fixture at Shildon saying, “once it became known that Jonathan might be available there wasn’t much to think about, with his experience and ability to play in a number of different positions he will be a huge asset to the squad as we look to achieve our aims this season and for the future”.
