Stockton Town loses thriller

Shildon AFC emerged 2-0 victors this afternoon in a lively thriller. Both goals came from the penalty spot.

 

A lively start saw several chances come and go for Stockton, whose best effort of the first half came on 11th minute when broke down the right hand side and curled a shot across face of goal.

Minutes later, another chance when a low angled shot bounced off the post before again bouncing but off the keeper to safety.

For rest of first half, both teams were evenly matched with Shildon getting chances the first half ended 0-0.

 

Stockton started second half on front foot till a counter attack saw the visitors earn a penalty in the 53rd minute. Matty Robson successfully converted it with a low angled shot into the bottom right hand corner to put Shildon 0-1 up.

After that penalty, both teams have chances with the Anchors dominating. The best piece of action from that period came on 66th minute when Anchors keeper, Michael Arthur came out to edge of box and made a fantastic save.

Drama came in 78th minute when a brief scuffle broke out after a sequence of scrappy tackles. Once we got going again, Stockton created more chances but disaster stuck when Shildon won another penalty in injury time.

Matty Robson once again stepped up to convert it into the bottom right hand corner.

In the 95th minute, Stockton got a late header saved and so it finished 2-0 to Shildon.

 

Positives to take

The Anchors might still be without a win but they can take heart from an impressive display.

If can keep their cool and push on from this performance, expect that win to come soon or even on Tuesday at Sunderland RCA.
