Stockton suffer first defeat in 9

Stockton paid the penalty for a poor period in the first half and poor finishing in the second today at Bishop Auckland. Fred Woodhouse gave them the lead in 9 minutes as Stockton dominated the opening 15 minutes and should have been 2 up, but  Bishops equalised through Ryder on 14 mins and then a clumsy challenge conceded a penalty which Griffiths converted. Stockton’s defence looked a little nervous and Bishops continued to press scoring again on 35 when a mistake let in Johnson who’s cross/shot was tapped in by Ward at the far post. Second half against the wind Stockton did come into the game more. Bishops seemed content to sit back and try to catch Stockton on the break. The introduction of Jamie Owens and a formation change saw Stockton pressurise the Bishops goal for the final 25 minutes, good chances for Owens, Coleman and Cossavella along with several other scrambles and near misses could have brought a different result. Arthur saved a Bishops penalty with 10 minutes to go and although a disappointing result, the performance was good again and hopefully another winning run can start with the next game.
