STOCKTON TOWN YEAR 3 & 4 SCHOOL MINI LEAGUE 2008/09

Stockton Town FC hosted its first ever school mini league during the 2008-2009 season.

The competition was a great success with 12 teams from 8 local primary schools taking part. The competing schools were St Bedes, St Cuthbert’s, St Marks, Whitehouse Primary, Fairfield, Mill Lane, Oxbridge and St Patricks.

The league ran over all terms of the school year with each team getting the opportunity to pit themselves against other children from their local area on an action packed afternoon during each school term.

Every game was played with great spirit, with pupils and teachers from all of the schools giving enthusiastic support for each of their schools. Huge congratulations should go, however, to the overall league winners, St Patricks Primary from Fairfield.

The winner’s trophy and medals were presented at a school assembly to the delighted St Patricks youngsters by Stockton Town Football Development Officer Andy Burton and current Middlesbrough (and former Stockton Town player), Johnny Franks.

Football Development Officer Andy Burton said: “I am absolutely delighted with the response from the schools teachers and children who have made the event a success with their enthusiasm on every occasion. The skill level over the school year in my opinion kept getting higher and higher which again is credit to the teachers and children for putting in so much effort.”

Andy also thanked Paul Large and Peter Watton, both school sports co-ordinators, for putting in so much effort to get the schools involved. “Its great that these guys are so keen to not only start events like these but also to develop them so that each time it gets better and better.”
