FANTASTIC CUP FINAL SUCCESS FOR UNDER 14's

Marton FC 0-5 Stockton Town FC

Squad (Alphabetical): J. Callender, J. Campbell, J. Carberry (Vice Captain), M. Cass (Captain), T. Coulthard, M. Craven, M. Crofts, S. Duck, J. Fleming, J. Higgins, J. Marron, R. Page, J. Peaden, S. Riddle, J. Swann, D. Tomlin.
Manager: Craig Higgins
Coach: Geoff Peaden, Neil Marron

Stockton Town FC U14s lifted the League Cup with some style following their emphatic 5 nil victory over Marton FC. The first 15 minutes was a very scrappy affair with nerves getting the better of both teams. It was Stockton however that were carving out the more meaningful opportunities in front of goal.

The deadlock was broken with a speculative 25 yard lob from Swann that evaded the outstretched arms of the Marton goalkeeper.

In the second half Stockton took the game by the scruff of the neck after Riddle burst through the Marton defence and was upended just prior to pulling the trigger. Swann duly converted the resultant penalty.

Two superb saves from Page during a 5 minute spell of pressure from Marton provided a platform for Stocktons third goal. A superb inswinging corner from Fleming evaded everyone and flew into the net (this has since been hotly disputed by Riddle who is convinced that the ball touched at least three strands of his hair).

Stockton were growing stronger by the minute and the introduction of Duck, Crofts, Callendar and Marron kept the momentum going. Stocktons fourth came courtesy of Crofts who cooly slotted past the Marton keeper. Stocktons victory was rounded off with Captain Cass outpacing the Marton defence and drilling the ball into the corner of the net.

There were some outstanding performances from the Stockton lads with every squad member playing an important role in the match however it was Swann that caught the eye of the Independant MOM adjudicator.

Stockton Town U14s capped of a remarkable Season having secured the Division 1 Championship and League Cup Double. Congratulations to a remarkable bunch of lads whose immense effort during the course of the 2008 / 09 Season have been well and truly recognised.
