Michael Dunwell: A Momentous Moment For Stockton Town Football Club

Stockton Town boss Michael Dunwell has hailed tomorrow’s maiden FA Cup tie as ‘massive’ for the club, as they compete in the prestigious tournament for the first time in their history against local rivals Guisborough Town.

On being up for the cup…

“For the first time we have been in the competition, and it was the one thing we aimed for last year, to qualify for this competition, and everything else was a bonus,” he said.

“It also means our under 18’s can compete in the FA Youth cup which will be a great experience for them.

“A win would be huge especially against our local rivals.

“Financially the prize money will be a great help if we did win, also a home tie against one of the bigger clubs Shildon/Morpeth in the next round is something to look forward to. But we have to win this game first, which won’t be an easy task.”

On how to tackle Guisborough Town…

We always go into a game looking to win and even more so in the cup. “We will have to be at our best and be patient as Guisborough like to keep the ball then break quickly.

“They have some very good young players in Roberts and Goldsack who we need to keep an eye on especially. But if we do our own jobs I’m confident we can overcome them.”

On injuries and team news…

“Adam Nicholson is obviously a couple of months away. But on a more positive note Max Craggs trained twice this week and will go into the squad along with Tom Coulthard and Sonni Coleman who both return from holiday. We still have a number of players on holiday but go there with a strong 18 man squad.”

On importance of a winning start to the season…

“It’s always good to get off to a winning start, but starting with a cup game anything can happen. Both teams will be going for the win and I expect and exciting but tight game. We are really looking forward to it and can’t wait to get started.”
