STOCKTON TOWN FC 1 - 1 LUMLEY LADIES
Girls Under 12's Match Report

Stockton started quickly with Charlie running with the ball from the halfway line right the way though to Lumley’s box to force an early corner after just one minute.

Lumley cleared the corner and made the break, it was only some good goalkeeping from Kelsie that kept the game goalless. It was then Lumley who really started to apply the pressure producing a fantastic save by Kelsie from a long range shot.

The last few seconds of the first half saw Sophie doing well in midfield releasing Charlie on a darting run towards Lumley’s corner flag only to be brought down for a free kick, but Stockton were unable to capitalize on the set piece and the teams went in at half time with the game goalless.

Lumley started the second half brightly and only a fantastic last ditch sliding tackle from Alise kept the scores level, but the deadlock was broken just a minute later when Lumley’s sustained pressure finally gave them the deserved lead.

Lumley continued to apply pressure trying to put the game beyond Stockton’s reach, but Sophie continued to win the 50/50 (and 60/40 not in her favour) tackles in midfield, and some good goalkeeping and strong defending gave Stockton some hope.

After 21 minutes Stockton finally started to put some pressure onto the Lumley defence as a long throw from Bethany to Charlie forced a corner following some frantic defending from Lumley.  Although Stockton were unable to make the pressure count this time, Lumley’s defence were looking stretched and were now happy to clear the ball back into Stockton’s half.

The equalizer came from a poor clearance from Lumley that Charlie picked up near the halfway line and made a quick run towards the Lumley goal. She shot from the edge of the box and the goalkeeper was only able to parry the shot into the path of Jordan who'd made a darting run into the box to score her first goal of the season from close range.

Stockton now looked the more likely to win the game with some good passing along the right hand side between Sophie and Jordan, which resulted in Bethany forcing a corner.  Again Lumley dealt with the corner well and with only 30 seconds left on the clock it was Lumley that made a quick break but with some good defending by Alex and Alise, Stockton were able to clear the danger.  But there was still time for a bit more action as the referee continued to play 1 minute 30 seconds into added on time. Lumley were pressing for the win but with everyone back in defence, Stockton were eventually able to clear the ball giving the referee chance to blow his whistle.
