Anchors Made to Pay for Mistakes

An in form Whitley Bay took all 3 points today but the scoreline didn’t reflect the game in general. CORNISH gave Bay the lead on 10 minutes and JOHNSTON made it 2-0 on 18 but it could quite easily have been level. The Anchors finally got one past Flynn in the Bay Goal when RISBROUGH finished from close range at the far post. OWENS made it 2-2 early in the second half and it looked like Stockton who finish games well would go on to win it but keeper Jordan played a short goal kick that was intercepted and finished by PATTON. That rocked the Anchors and they then defended poorly for a spell and a very good young Bay side capitalised with further goals for JOHNSTON and NEARNEY to make it 5-2. The game was a lot closer than that and Stockton had several chances especially in the first half but Bay showed a lot of quality and when they attacked they caused lots of problems for the Anchors. A disappointing end to the winning League run.
